Meet Stacey Langford, the Mama of Tortoise & Hare Slow Foods

"As for butter vs. margarine, I trust cows more than chemists."

Stacey Langford
My name is Stacey Langford and I'm The Mama at Tortoise & Hare.

I'm not a professional chef, a nutritionist or some hoity-toity food critic. What I am is a dedicated home-cook and a certified Organic Master Gardener. I'm also a busy new mum who thinks it shouldn't have to be so darn hard to eat well.

These days, the simple question "What's for dinner?" is loaded with environmental, political and social implications; it's all too easy to get overwhelmed and give up!

I'm here to tell you we don't need three Michelin Stars or a degree in food science to bring some sanity back to our tables; all we have to do is reclaim what was ours to begin with and take back our kitchens.

I believe in real food for real people. Simple as that. I believe that regular, everyday people have the power to bring change to our food systems and joy to our kitchen tables, one meal at a time. My family has reclaimed the pleasure of nourishing ourselves from seed to table, and through Tortoise & Hare I hope to empower others to do the same.

Having been recently married and now a proud mum to our first child, I've finally jumped-ship from my cubicle to pursue the things I hold closest to my heart: food, the garden, family, home.

I welcome you to join me as we rediscover the comfort of a home that smells of fresh baked bread, remember the true taste of strawberries warm from the sun, and relish in the pure, simple pleasure of a shared meal made from scratch with confidence and love.

Stacey is a proud member of the following organizations: Slow Food International, The Society for Organic Urban Landcare (SOUL) and the Canadian National Farmer's Union.
